EpiPen® training device

Even if you are well trained in the use of EpiPen®, you may be too unwell to during anaphylaxis to administer it yourself. That’s why it’s a good idea to ask your family and friends to practise using an EpiPen® training device.

The device works the same way as EpiPen® and EpiPen® Jr, except it does not have a needle and does not contain adrenaline.

Watch the training video

Encourage people to watch the video titled “How to Use EpiPen® Trainer”. The video is available in English and multiple other languages and explains how to practise giving anaphylaxis first aid.

Also ask people to watch the video “How to Use EpiPen® or EpiPen® Jr.”

Build confidence

Tell your family and friends that EpiPen® is designed to be used by people with no medical training. Remind them of the blue to the sky, orange to the thigh mantra that is explained in the training videos. This will help them remember the two-step process of administering EpiPen® :

  1. Remove the blue cap from the top of the device.
  2. Apply the orange end to the thigh.

It's also a good idea to show people your ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis and tell them where they can find it in an emergency.
